Forgotten Hero !!

I was sitting in our college canteen one day, having noodles along with my friends. They were talking about some soon-to-be released movie of Salman Khan. Between their extolments for Mr. Khan, I overheard the conversation of two friends(I guess). I don't know what was the cause of their discussion, because all I heard was: guy1: Do you know the birthday of Che Guevara? The other guy was clueless. 'Who is he?' he asked rather innocently. 'What?' he roared,'you don't know Che Guevara?' His friend sat embarrassed. I turned to guy1 and asked him, 'Do you know who Bhagat Singh is?' 'Yea, he's some freedom Fighter, I guess' he said casually. He is not 'some' freedom fighter you moron,' I wanted to say. But dropped the idea realizing that a person who guesses the names of the great men like Bhagat Singh will never understand my point.
It reminded me of an incident that happened a few days ago. I was reading a book about Bhagat Singh, sitting on a bench at Kachiguda station. I didn't know since when my friend was standing infront of me, but when I sensed my book elevating I looked above. My friend was lifting the book trying to read the name of it. 'Bhagat Singh!' he exclaimed upon his successful effort, 'we already got the independence yaar; whats the point in reading about him now?' he made himself comfortable beside me. I looked at him in horror at once but then I laughed at his ignorance.
Its not uncommon that we to witness these incidents now-a-days. But whats uncommon is the fact we don't bother! How can we forget the one who sacrificed his life for our country? Did you ever ask this question? Did you even think of it?
You may come up with an argument that it was even his country so whatever he did was for his own country. But give it a thought that what did he think he would gain from his sacrifice? You say he became famous. Yes! He became so famous that we just remember him for only two days a year. Other days we don't even care to read even a single line about him.We celebrate the birthdays of so many celebs but not of these martyr's. Does today's generation of India know anything about him other that he was a freedom fighter?

If you think that he was just a freedom fighter then you are not completely right. He not only fought for overthrow of British Empire but also thought of its aftermath. While our then leaders thought of just Independence, Bhagat Singh's revolution accompanied with the socialist reconstruction of Indian Society. His thoughts were influenced by communism and socialism. He was a intellect and a keen learner. He studied about all the revolutionary movements in India and abroad. He broke free of all his religious customs and publicly declared himself an atheist. He submitted himself to one cause- serving mother-land.
He was also a very good writer; he wrote many articles and a couple of books on freedom and various revolutions. But unfortunately almost all of his works were smuggled out of the jail and destroyed; fearing that it would trigger a revolt. But his much talked about article was one in which he wrote about why he chose to be an atheist: "Why I am An Atheist".
Many of our National leaders were not in nsupport of his ideas and methods. But they even not disagree with the fact that the path he chose was much more powerful and effective; so much that it made English government to shiver in their boots and they sentenced them to death immediately. But what is more disheartening is the fact that their bodies were not given to their respective families. Instead they were secretly disposed. Even hisfamily members were not allowed to meet them one last time.
I may not be able to tell you about him in this small blog-no one can actually.Because though he lived for mere 23 years he made his name to be remembered for centuries! And we knowingly or unknowingly are in an attempt to forget him. Its left to you if you will remember him or not. But I'll make sure of thanking him for his efforts everyday.
I emphasize that I am full of ambition and hope and of full charm of life. But I can renounce all at the time of need, and that is the real sacrifice.
